Cosmo vision. Is how we perceive the world around us. It is our view of the world. The Cosmo vision serves us to place ourselves within the context and to identify what themes are interesting to address for us as a screenwriters. Ten lines of Cosmo vision is sufficient.
Theme. Once we have our Cosmo vision, the next step is to choose the theme. Describe in one sentence what screenplay we would like to relate, for example: a man who change his life, a family that deteriorate economically, a girl who decides to undertake a journey and so on.
Narrative model. Every screenplay must have a conflict, because without it the history doesn´t progress. It is very easy to prepare a narrative model. The main character pursues an objective and appears an opponent. For example: Pablo wants change himself and his opponent is the reality, or Pablo wants to conquer a girl, but his fears don´t allow him to do it.
Character’s file. Once we determine who the main character is, what is his objective in the film and who is his opponent, we can create a character’s file. To create a good character’s file we need to describe with all the details physical and psychological aspects of the character.
Dramatic curve or Aristotelian curve. This is the skeleton, the core of the screenplay, the structure around that the foundations will be created. The dramatic curve needs to have 3 acts. In the first act the characters and the surroundings are showed till get to the turning point when the character discovers what his objective in the film is. From that moment starts the second act where the character need to pass all the obstacles till defeats the opponent or the opponent defeats the character. Then starts the third act that serves as epilogue of what had happened.
Beat Sheet (A Step Outline). Beat Sheet is a description of the most relevant actions of the history in sequential order. For example: 1) Pablo meets a girl, 2) Pablo walks the streets, 3) Pablo enters a bar, etc. Beat Sheet serves to take a quick look to the history and to identify what moments are working well or not.
Treatment. In the treatment are developed the points of the scenes of the Beat Sheet (without dialogues). It is a literary extensive development of the film that is reflected in approximately forty pages.
Screenplay. As in the treatment, in the screenplay every scene is developed, but here the dialogues are added. A screenplay normally has 90 pages and it is issued at least in 5 versions till the definitive screenplay is issued.
